Monday February 4th, Alpha and Charlie Company of 44th IBCT 2-113th Infantry Battalion said farewell to their Soldiers during a ceremony at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. Families, friends, distinguished guests, local armed forces and several others came out to support the Soldiers as they embark on a year long deployment to the Horn of Africa. Governor Phil Murphy, Senator Bob Menendez and Adjutant General Jemal J. Beale sent the troops off with encouraging words, as well as several other respected officials, both military and civilian.
The Prudential Center went above and beyond to provide an organized event that was comforting for both the Soldiers and their families. Food and refreshments were provided, a bag pipe procession, the Army showtune band as well as care packages for the troops from local charities. The success of this event is tributed to the wonderful staff involved, Family Readiness Group, local community, charities, political figures, local law enforcement, TAG officials, 44th Brigade, the New Jersey National Guard and most of all the families and friends who support our Soldiers everyday. The non-profit organization Operation Gratitude also came out and delivered approximately 180 care packages to the troops. The 2-113th IN BN thanks all those involved for making this event a wonderful farewell.
As Governor Murphy said to end his speech at the February 4th farewell ceremony, “I thank you for your service, I thank your families for the sacrifice they are making through your service and I truly look forward to the opportunity to welcome you all home safe and sound.”
